Artist Ana Khouri Commissioned by The Fashion Trust US to Create Inaugural Trophy
Globally recognized artist and jeweler, Ana Khouri, has been commissioned by The Fashion Trust U.S. to design the winner’s trophy to be awarded at the organization’s annual ceremony on March 21, 2023 in Los Angeles. The trophy will be used going forward on their annual awards ceremony.
The trophies are made of Steel. They resemble Ana’s sculptural work. It is her first sculpture incorporating Fairmined Gold.
With this trophy, Ana envisioned not only a return to form but also an opportunity to bring Fairmined into the fold - one creative discipline flowing into another. Reminiscent of her sculptures, Khouri designed the trophy to reflect a creator’s path from inspiration to realization. The folds in the piece are a reminder that a designer’s journey isn’t smooth or linear; there are moments of challenge and difficult work, as well as periods of free-flowing productivity and abundance.
For this work, she chose a perforated steel to communicate permeability and creativity, as well as the connected nature of design to the natural world.
The sculpted trophies are bathed in Fairmined Gold. The Fairmined seal guarantees that the gold is fully traceable and extracted with the best mining practices, aimed at preserving the environment. A long-time partner of Fairmined’s, Ana wanted to incorporate the material into the design, as their mission of supporting artisan and small-scale mining communities parallels the FTUS’s mission of supporting and nurturing young talent.
The gold finish represents a designer’s journey with the hours of labor, production, road bumps and inspired creativity beneath a beautiful surface on the finished piece.
