My focus in designing jewelry is always to bring something new to each piece. That’s especially true when approaching something as traditional as the engagement ring. If the tradition of marriage is evolving and men and women becoming more sophisticated in how and when they decide to marry, then the rings made to symbolize that commitment should also become more reflective of the progress we’ve made. The engagement ring is the most important piece a person will ever wear. I chose to design these rings so that they are more in line with the actual lives we lead now. These rings are for women and men who wish to be a little more daring, and, I believe, more discerning in their choices. If there is to be one piece of jewelry to symbolize the highest commitment that people make in life, then it must be absolutely unique; it also should feel more personal, and, most of all, it should not be conventional. The first step to designing these rings was to use only nontraditional stones, settings and materials. All three rings are made from 18k gold and they contain emeralds and white and yellow diamonds that have been cut in very distinctive shapes and given extraordinary settings. Some of the bands I chose to leave open. The rings are, for me, a very direct symbol of how relationships are constantly growing. People can express and display their love for each other however they choose now and if they wish to give rings, those rings should be a mirror to how perfectly imperfect love can be.
